The manufacture and reworking of transparent fused silica (Quartz glass) demands the application of very high temperatures, since crystalline silicon dioxide (SiO2) and fused silica does not melt below 1700º C. Up to now our competitors have been reworking quartz glass, helas still as Mr. Clarke did a century ago, with H2O2 burners.
